Two Bearing Fix

Question: On September 23, 2002 you are sailing in Rhode Island Sound on a heading of 120° per ship's compass (psc) and you take a visual bearing of 273°psc on Point Judith Light and another bearing of 037°psc on Brenton Reef Light. What is your Latitude-Longitude position to the nearest tenth of a minute?

References

  • Use the chart section provided to plot your solution.

  • Use the deviation table provided to convert the psc bearings of the two lights to degrees Magnetic. (Remember that the Deviation Table is based on ship's heading and not on the bearings.)

  • Use the compass rose provided to determine Magnetic Variation for your location and date.
