Refund Policy

In preparing for this course, we have made a number of irreversible commitments in connection with the boat, safety equipment, instructor, maintenance, provisioning, insurance and other items. When you reserve a spot in a particular course, we make a firm guarantee that it will be held for you. We will not promise your spot to other prospects, and this sometimes causes us to lose a customer because the date that they want is not available when they inquire. If you later decide to cancel and request a refund or rescheduling, we would lose both your money and the money of the customer that we turned away. If you cancel a short time prior to the course, it's all but impossible for us to obtain a replacement customer. Over the years we have tried to manage this in a fair and equitable manner, but there seems to be no perfect solution. It is therefore necessary for us to establish a "no refund" policy for cancellations and rescheduling requests made after a certain deadline as follows:

For 101, 103, 104, private & docking courses on Chesapeake Bay and classroom courses: Cancellation/rescheduling deadline is 90 days prior to course starting date.

For cancellations received on or prior to these deadlines, refunds will be paid of the refundable portion less a credit card fee of 4%. No refunds will be paid for cancellations received after these deadlines. The initial $200 course reservation deposit and book fee is non-refundable and non-transferable and books are non-returnable.

A $200 reservation change fee will apply to all rescheduling requests regardless of when received.

Rescheduling requests received after these deadlines are equivalent to a cancellation and must be treated the same as a cancellation; that is, you would lose your fees paid for the original date and would need to pay an additional course fee for the new date.

If we cancel the course and you are unable to reschedule into a different course offering, we’ll provide a full refund of monies paid for course fees less $100 for books provided which are non-returnable.

We urge you to protect your course fee investment for late cancellation due to cause by separately purchasing Trip Cancellation Insurance, which can be obtained through most travel agents. We do not provide this insurance, but there are several companies that do provide it for a reasonable premium fee. Two that we know of are Travelex Insurance Services or Allianz Travel Insurance. They cover cancellations for a variety of reasons. We have not investigated the credentials of these companies and cannot guarantee their integrity, so you would want to do so before purchasing from them.
