Day
1… Orientation, provisioning, dinghy setup, handling and towing. Boat
systems, engine, plumbing, electric, safety gear. Weather forecast: Rain;
small craft advisory; cold. Continued with navigation lessons and decided to
stay in port. Dinner aboard.
Day
3… Winds NNE 10-15 knots; scattered showers; patchy fog; cold. Departed
Davis Creek 0925. Full sail. Transited Kent Narrows about 1300 near high tide.
Channel has been dredged. Lowest depth approximately 6.5 feet MLLW. Navigated
Eastern bay, Miles River to St Michaels. Conducted emergency drills underway,
weather and knots. Arrived St Michaels 1545.
Day
3… Winds NW 10-15, gusting 25; partly cloudy; small craft advisory. Departed
St Michaels 0910 headed for Annapolis. Motored to Eastern bay, then first reef
mainsail and genoa. Rough weather passing Bloody Point; waves 3-5 feet; winds
15-20, gusting 30. Crossed Bay on starboard tack to get to western side where
waves were 1-2 feet. Tacked to mouth of Severn River on one tack. Students
performed well in challenging conditions. Arrived Annapolis 1745; long day.
Day
4… Sunny! NW 5-10 knots, then S5-10 knots, then W 10-15 knots. DR plotting,
2 point fixes, pumped out in morning at ACM. Points of sail, preventer, sail
trim, twist, draft. Anchoring techniques. Arrived Eagle Cove on Magothy River
at 1545. Reviews and test.
Day… Light and variable winds. Rain in morning; sunny afternoon. Navigation lessons; set and drift; whisker pole setup and usage; MOB drills; house battery was flat in morning. Departed 0750 for Davis Creek; arrived 1415. Pumped out; topped fuel; docking techniques review; clean up; topped water; diplomas. Engine 987.2; Fuel 4.1 gal.Captain
