Louise Orion

Captain Louise Orion began sailing as a child and cruised the St Lawrence and the Great Lakes for a decade on her family's cruiser. She then worked for five years as a mate on a 100 meter private charter vessel which plied European and Caribbean waters. Louise bought her first sailboat in 1998, a 29 footer which she skippered from Toronto to Florida and back on the outside route.  Her second boat was a Catalina 36 sailing between San Francisco and Puerto Vallarta. Captain Orion has logged over 20,000 ocean miles on sailboats in the Atlantic, Caribbean and Pacific including
Marquises and Hawaii.  Now retired from software engineering, she lives aboard her Hylas 47 cutter, and is enjoying her twin passions, cruising and teaching sailing. Thanks to her dual citizenship, Captain Orion holds a 200 ton Master of Yachts Offshore ticket from the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency as well as a USCG Near Coastal license.  She also holds four levels as an ASA Instructor, a general ham license, a diver's cert, and an unflappable cheery disposition.
