    ASA# 106 ADVANCED COASTAL CRUISING 

    SAN JUAN ISLANDS 2000

    Cruise Plan

    This Advanced Coastal Training Cruise starts out with a full day of pre-departure preparations and training with all crewmembers on board the yacht, HALF MOON, an Island Packet 40 blue water sailing yacht. The next day, we'll get underway and plan to carryout the following itinerary.

    Day one: Anacortes west via Guemes Channel and across Rosario Strait; through Thatcher Pass then north through Lopez Sound around Upright Head; around Shaw Island to Turn Rock NW to Friday Harbour where we will moor up for the night. Distance day one - 20 miles.

    Day two: Friday Harbor to Montague Harbor, BC; North via San Juan Channel; East via Spieden Channel; North via Swanson Channel and Trincomal Channel to Galiano Island and Montague Harbor - clear customs. Distance day two - 25 miles.

    Day three and four: North into Desolation Sound, overnight around Texada Island South to Sucia Island USA - clear customs. Distance day three and four - 120 miles.

    Day five: Sucia Island to Stuart Island via Matia Island, then to Waldron Island and to Provost Harbor on Stuart Island. Distance day five - 20 miles.

    Day six: Stuart Island to Shaw Island; Day trips to Reid Harbor, West Sound and East Sound of Orca Island to Point Hudson on Shaw Island. Distance day six - 30 miles.

    Day seven: Point Hudson to Anacortas. Distance day seven - 25 miles.

    This will be a fully packed week of great sailing in a great area with many opportunities to practice sailing skills, seamanship, navigation and more. We may even find time for a little clam digging and whale watching. This cruise will be a great learning experience and fun for all!
