Introduction to Sailing

2025

We offer a full day of introductory sailing on a 32 foot Island Packet Yacht with a USCG Licensed Captain.  This class is ideal for the new sailor who wants to give sailing a try before committing to a class, for the rusty sailor who would like to refresh skills, or for anyone who just wants to go sailing for a day!  Bring a lunch along since you will be out for the day learning to sail and enjoying the Chesapeake Bay. You are welcome to arrive the afternoon or evening before your class and sleep on board, so no hotel is required.  Lankford Bay Marina has a pool and shower facilities for your use. The swimming pool is open from late May until mid September, so bring your bathing suit.  The boat has shore power and air-conditioning or heat when at dock.  The maximum class size is four students.

Please bring a sleeping bag or sheets and blanket, towels, flashlight, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, deck shoes, warm and cool clothing, and rain gear. We do have some pillows on-board, but bring your own pillowcase.  If you are particular about your pillow feel free to bring your own.  If you are a light sleeper, bring earplugs.  Our marina is general very quiet, but unusual sounds or movement of other students on board may wake a light sleeper.  Sailing gloves are not required but may be helpful for you.   Rain gear does not need to be of the expensive marine grade variety.   For mid-summer classes quick-dry shorts, athletic shoes and a light rain jacket are sufficient.  For fall and spring classes, waterproof pants and jacket are best.  Make sure you have a change of shoes.  We recommend that you bring bottled water for drinking, or you may use the jug of water that we provide.

Fee: $275 per person per day
Arrival either 6-8 PM the evening before class, or by 8:15 AM day of class

2025 Class Dates
May 18 June 22 July 6 Aug 30 Sept 19 Sept 28
