Deb
Cashion, who took ASA101, 103 and 104 courses with us in 2021, sent the
following note:
~
ASA 104 is a great course to test your skills on the open
water. We cruised around the Chesapeake Bay for four days. We sailed under the
Chesapeake Bay Bridge, moored at Annapolis, docked at the Marina in St.
Michael's, sailed through Kent Narrows, and anchored somewhere up the Chester
River. We learned to use navigation charts, plotted our entire course and way
points, and learned how to take fixes to correct our course when it was off. It
was a real hands-on learning experience.
Captain Frank Mummert is an impressive seaman and terrific teacher. He has a
great sense of humor and a load of fun. Frank took the stress out of learning
and made the whole experience enjoyable. He never lost his patience and
encouraged us to work together and figure things out for ourselves. He really
prepared us for the ASA 104 test, which is not easy, but we all did well because
we were ready for it.
Last weekend I took out a Flying Scot single-handed all by myself! And I started
a Women's Racing Team at my sailing club. We have our own boat with a hot pink
spinnaker. I call it the Barbie Dreamhouse boat! Next week I'm taking off the
whole week to help out with Youth Sail Camp. I'm all in with sailing, so tell
Frank it was a good investment!
