We received this letter from Peter Ford who completed our Norfolk to St Thomas ocean training cruise in November 2006: This letter is to express my
appreciation of the ASA 108 voyage on KINJA from Norfolk to St Thomas under the
leadership of David Appleton and Lee Tucker. This was the culmination of all my
previous ASA courses with the Maryland School of Sailing, and fulfilled a
long-held ambition to sail way out into the Atlantic. Not only did we do that,
but experienced a whole range of new experiences: fantastic sunrises and
sunsets, landing 35 pound mahi-mahi for dinner, setting a storm anchor in earnest (i.e. not just
“practice’), shooting the sun and stars and, not least, enjoying the great
company of my ship mates. A wonderful experience, which leaves me feeling a good
deal more confident, if not competent, when I take out the family bareboating in
the future. Once again, thank you, and
congratulations on having David and Lee on your staff; They did a fantastic job,
with great instruction and humor. Best Wishes
