~ A Cut Above ~

We received this feedback from Alberto Ramirez who previously took our ASA101 and 103 and and our ASA104 course in June 2016

~

As in the three previous sailing certification courses that I have taken at the Maryland School of Sailing and Seamanship, my experience in this course was a most enjoyable learning adventure. This was also my second course aboard the Acadame, an excellent boat for the purposes of this course, very well kept and maintained, and a delight to sail.  She is an excellent boat kept in the best of conditions, a pleasure to sail and bunk in.  As usual, Rita and the rest of the School's staff were most helpful and informative in all matters related to this course.

Captain Jochen Hoffmann is an excellent, thorough, kind but demanding sailing Instructor. His attention to detail, to the safety of the crew, and to the coverage of the course objectives, made this course challenging but enjoyable. Captain Hoffmann not only answered all my questions, but shared with us some extra elements of sailing expertise and seamanship. In the face of an unexpected problem with the boat's head, Capt. Hoffmann viewed the situation as a learning opportunity for his students, and discussed with us all the options available to solve the problem, encouraging us to critically think the best solution, and then help implement it. I'm glad that he was our very capable Instructor in this course!

Keep up all the good work: responsiveness, care for your boats, attention to students' needs, and excellent curriculum and instructors. Yours is the only sailing school in Maryland where one learns not only how to sail, but true seamanship.  I have been an empirical sailor all my life and, after taking three courses at the Maryland School of Sailing and Seamanship, I feel confident and capable of sailing effectively any vessel 25'-40'. Thanks to Captain Tom Tursi and all my capable Instructors at the School, for sharing their knowledge and for their dedication to quality education.
